Nicolaus Copernicus, famous astronomer, mathematician, physician, lawyer and economist, was born on 19 February 1473. To mark the 550th anniversary of that event, the Senate of the Republic of Poland decided to proclaim 2023 as the Year of Nicolaus Copernicus. The celebrations will be joined by the Polish academic community, in particular the Jagiellonian University, Copernicus’ alma mater.
Although the celebrations will culminate during the World Copernican Congress, which was officially opened in Toruń in February, other accompanying events and promotional campaigns will also organised in academic cities with strong ties to Copernicus’ activity throughout the year. In Kraków, institutions participating and hosting these events include the Jagiellonian University, AGH University of Science and Technology, Kraków University of Economics and the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Voivodeship.
And example of the promotional campaign are the posters that can be seen on bus and tram stops in Kraków.
